Our reactions to things are based on experiences stored in our sub-conscious mind. Our sub-conscious thinks our addiction is “good” for us, this is because it remembers the feeling of pleasure and satisfaction, we receive from it. As our sub-conscious only knows the emotions that we have already experienced, it will automatically trigger us to feel those emotions when we see or think of a particular behaviour. Even if we consciously know the addiction or behaviour is not good for us, our sub-conscious mind can only reference the positive feelings of comfort or pleasure and therefore desires more of the same.
