We all experience fear at some point. And although it is distressing it is our basic survival mechanism which occurs in response to a perceived danger or threat. It is essential for our survival and is designed to keep us safe.

However, a phobia is a persistent irrational fear of an object or a situation that is generally considered harmless. Accompanying the fear is a strong desire to avoid the feared object or situation which can make it difficult to function normally in everyday life.

Overcoming fears or phobias is something that almost all of us have been challenged with at some time in our lives. Many fears are mild to moderate and can often be overcome without much effort. However, severe phobias are set deep in the subconscious mind and can become impossible to conquer using only conscious effort and thought.
